The Safari Green Building Index (SGBI) is a National Rating System Suitable for all kinds of buildings in different climatic zones in Kenya and the rest of East Africa.
Mission
The Safari Green Building Index (SGBI) addresses the lack of comprehensive, locally tailored green building standards and assessment tools in East Africa. By recognizing that existing global rating systems may not fully accommodate the unique climatic cultural and socio-economic context of the region, this tool fills that critical gap. As a result, it enhances efficiency, creates opportunities for sustainable development and improves environmental performance in construction projects.
Scope
The Provisions of this tool shall apply to:
- All new building works
- Extensions to existing buildings
- Building works which involve major retrofitting to existing buildings,
- Building Conservation/Heritage works
