The Safari Green Building Index is a National Rating System suitable for all kinds of buildings in Kenya and East Africa conceived and developed by the Architectural Association of Kenya(AAK), the University of Nairobi and UN-Habitat.
The Safari Green Building Index (SGBI) is a National Green Building Rating System that addresses the pressing Environmental and Sustainability challenges prevalent in the Construction Industry within the East African region, particularly Kenya.
Buildings have significant environmental impacts over their entire life cycle. Resources such as ground cover, forest, water and energy are depleted to make way for buildings. A green building minimizes the depletion of natural resources during its construction and operation.
All buildings that adhere to the requirements implied in this rating tool shall be eligible for green building certification at the classification of Class A, Class B, Class C or Class D. Green Buildings are classified based on this scoring system.
